Annual SAB Projects
The STEM Advisory Board (SAB) supports these annual events:
STEM Night Challenge -- held in December. This is a social opportunity for our STEM students. Throughout the night, they complete a variety of challenges. The SAB provides food and volunteers for this event.
STEMposium -- held in May. This is the big night for our STEM Academy students as they present their yearly projects. The SAB provides snacks and volunteers for this event.
Senior Breakfast -- held in May. We love celebrating the accomplishments of our seniors. This event is held during the school day. The SAB provides food and volunteers.
In previous years, the STEM Advisory Board has also supported these academy initiatives and student projects.
A solar array was added to the front of Athens Drive High School. For more information, see Solar Array on the STEM Academy Web site.
For its 2022 Spring initiative, the STEM Academy Student Board wanted to raise money to purchase and install a water bottle refill station in the building. At the time, there were NO water bottle refilling stations in the school.
We exceeded our fundraising goal! The new water bottle station has been installed in the downstairs hallway. With the additional funds, we will be able to purchase filters for the unit. The unit will be maintained by the student board.
Students gathered scraps from lunch and composted them.
In the spring of 2023, the STEM Academy created a hydroponic garden in the media center. The items grown are being consumed by teachers / students at the school.
